Review: Tan's Guesthouse Boracay - Room 6

Label(s): , , , , ; Posted By Ry

When I searched for budget accommodations in Boracay, Tan's Guesthouse (TGH) is one of the most mentioned in Pinoy online forums and blogs. I was convinced by the rave reviews and stayed with them during my 2010 and 2011 Boracay trips. For the more recent, we were assigned at Room # 6 located on the second floor.

Last year, we had a room good for two at P1,800 per night. It was originally P2,000 but members of online Pinoy forums get a a 10% discount, just mention it upon reservation. Surprisingly, we got our room at an even lower price this year. TGH initially quoted P1,500 per night on e-mail against the P2,000 published rate on their website. And as returning customers, we got an additional 20% discount so it's down to just P1,200 per night and that's already inclusive of daily buffet breakfast. But wait, there's more - TGH gave us a room that is actually good for four for the price of a room good for two. What a great budget deal!
TGH Main Room 6 (Double Deluxe) - room good for four for the price of two :D

TGH is very near the D' Mall and just a few strolls away to D' Talipapa. Going to the gimmick places of Station 1 by feet is also tolerable. In the end, it would depend on where you really want to spend most of your time. In our case, we like it to be in the middle of everything and TGH is such a good choice since it's in the center of Station 2.

Beach front? TGH is located inside an alley and, therefore, not a beach front property. But it is very near the shore and is just a few steps away from it. It actually takes just a 20 or 30-second walk to reach the alley's front.

Cleanliness is maintained around the guesthouse. TGH provides a jar of water placed beside the front desk where guests can wash their feet of the fine grains of sand. This is to avoid messing them around the guesthouse and the rooms. My only observation is that the jar is not replenished promptly; but it's not something to bother much.
very nice, clean and spacious room for its price
and btw, towels are also provided

the bathroom/toilet is also clean, hot shower is available and the water supply is strong

Two things though: the sink has a small crack and one faucet grip is almost touching the wall which makes it a bit difficult to twist. Of course, these are no big issues and can just be considered as areas of improvement :).

Other amenities include...
cable television and mini refrigerator (also a rack for wet clothes at the side)

safety deposit box (which I'm not sure if working since we didn't use it)

small table stand with some utensils

Wi-Fi routers are available in the front desk and at the roof deck. I'm not sure if the whole guesthouse can capture the signal. In our room, the connection is generally ok but at times spotty.

For breakfast, it is served until 10AM on the roof deck at the fourth floor. If I recall it right, it includes five viands, a side dish, rice, soup, coffee and tea. The food is average but we're not expecting much from the price we paid anyway.
Good Morning Boracay!

TGH is also known in the forums for their costumer service. The staff are very friendly, accommodating and helpful. You can even ask them for recommendations and tips on the things to do and try in the island. They are very prompt with our requests such as when we asked our rooms to be cleaned and when we needed some assistance on the hot shower. The thing that I would like to raise though is their responsiveness during the reservation process. It often took 12-24 hours before they reply on e-mails. One of my friends almost gave up when she did a reservation here because it had been days before she got a reply.

Overall, I like TGH because of its clean rooms, proximity to places of interests, commendable customer service and, of course, budget-friendly rates. With what it offers, the price is really worth it. Value for money as they say. Therefore, I recommend Tan's Guesthouse for those traveling in a budget yet don't want to compromise comfort and convenience.

    Hi Ry!

    Very helpful blog indeed!

I'll be visiting boracay this march with my family (husband and 2 kids at 9 and 3 years old). We've got the hotel but we are looking for the most comfortable way of getting there. Is there any any private transpo available from airport to hotel and vice versa?

    Thanks in advance =)

Hi, I believe meron as most hotels/hotel can arrange "airport transfers". i haven't tried it yet but you may inquire on your hotel :)
